Graeme Gunn: Plumbers and Gasfitters Union Building, 1969D–1971
- Melbourne, Australia, Show on map
- #COM #Oceania
-
The building counts as one of the earliest examples of Brutalism in Victoria. Massive polygonal exposed concrete volumes are cantilevered and recessed into distinctive shapes.
-
The building is unchanged externally and easily maintained, though the addition of external sig- nage and fencing off the vulnerable undercroft are unsympathetic to its character. The vacant lot between the Trade Union building and the PGEUB landscaped by Ellis Stones has been cleared for car parking. The PGEUB is listed in the Victorian Heritage Register, the National Trust Database and the AIA Register of Nationally Significant 20th Century Architecture.
