The building stands out with ist emphasized structure and materials. Concrete supports and iron window elements structure the façades rhythmically. It was connected with the Vilas Communication Hall with a footbridge, which has been demolished in 2015.

The George L. Mosse Humanities Building is under threat of demolition. The building is considered outdated and has several deficiencies such as leaky windows and water damage. The cost of maintenance and necessary repairs outweighs the benefits from the university's perspective. There are plans to retire the building in the long term and replace it with a new building, although no specific demolition date has been set.
This building was included in the red list, published in our exhibition catalog SOS Brutalism: A Global Survey (September 2017). After a status review on September 30, 2024, it is still classified as red (endangered) in the online database.
