Francis Pym: Ulster Museum Extension, 1962C–1964

  • Belfast, Northern Ireland, Great Britain, Show on map
  • #CUL #Sculptural #Monolith #Western Europe
  • The architect’s choice of façade ingeniously combines the extension wing with the classic main building, creating a transition that is almost as ironic as the later post-Modernists: yet interweaving and separation are harmoniously deployed in a game of contrasts.

  • Grade B1 heritage listed. Despite the listing, extensive refurbishments in 2005–2009 changed significant parts of the interior as was met with significant resistance by the C20 Society (last updated on March 3, 2026).
