Unknown architect: Hraiche Pool, ?–?

  • Tripoli, Lebanon, Show on map
  • #REC #FoldedPlate #Middle East
  • Built in the mid to late 1960s, this pool complex is located on the outskirts of Tripoli, close to the sea and several satellite towns. Its most prominent features are a vast concrete landscape outer area and a folded plate wall, a static solution popularized by Marcel Breuer in the 1950s. Special thanks to Firas Kay.

  • Abandoned shortly after the start of the Lebanese Civil War 1975, possibly reopened for a few months in 1978, later intermittently occupied and used as a garrison by the Syrian army. Painted signs indicate that it has been used as some kind of showroom at some point as well. Today it is in desolate condition. The complex has recently been acquired by a local businessman. Threatened by demolition.
