On the occasion of Expo 67 in Montreal Safdie designed this landscape-like residential estate, consisting of 354 elements, as an exemplary project for new concepts of dwellings that drew on the insights of the Metabolists. Here, architecture is grasped as a vibrant, growing organism. The apartments have their own roof gardens, and are thus construed as intricately stacked individual units. Safdie himself viewed the project as a counter reaction to Brutalism!

Owing to financing problems and the resulting high prices for many years the ensemble was not well received. Heritage-listed since 2009. Today, many penthouses have been created by combining several cubes. Decentralized renovation by the respective apartment owners.
