The obsession of Macedonian architects with the Japanese metabolism culminates in the Hydro-Meteorological Institute (1972–1975) designed by Krsto Todorovski, a miniature city in the air placed on top of a suburban hill. The entrance plaza, sheltered by a large cantilevered volume, is a space full of drama offering a beautiful view of the Vardar valley. Three closely placed service cylinders are supporting the slanted tracts with offices that hover over the dense network of laboratories, lecture rooms and auxiliary spaces.
