  • Place Bonaventure was the second largest commercial building in the world and became the generator of the city’s remarkable urban future. … Reyner Banham devoted a full chapter to Megacity Montreal in his book Megastructure: Urban futures of the recent past. … Place Bonaventure is built over a Metro Station, traversed by eighteen railway tracks, on the air-rights of which it valorizes a supersize city block wasteland by logically accommodating from bottom to top: the Metro station, retail spaces, exhibition halls, showrooms for large international manufacturers to display their merchandise to retailers, offices, and a rooftop hotel with waterfalls and extensive gardens. The project can be described as a city within a city. Excerpt from Vikram Bhatt’s article in: SOS Brutalism: A Global Survey. Catalog DAM + Wüstenrot Foundation, Zurich (Park Books) 2017

  • Numerous additional windows have later been cut into the façade.
