  • The Macadam Building was extensively renovated between 2017 and 2020. Nine of the ten floors were modernized to create high-quality learning and teaching areas, including a 100-seat lecture theatre, flexible seminar rooms with modern technology, physics laboratories and a Digital Humanities Student Hub. The brutalist façade with exposed concrete ornamentation was retained during the renovation. The total cost of the renovation work amounted to around £11 million and was completed in February 2020.

The building was granted a Certificate of Immunity (COI) on November 20, 2024, which is valid until November 19, 2029. This means that the Macadam Building cannot be listed during this period. However, it is not currently considered to be under threat (last updated on February 14, 2025).
