The monumental, newly constructed philharmonic hall consists mostly of reinforced concrete, which is clad, however, with slabs made of domestic marble and other natural stones. The façade takes up Brutalist forms, though moves in other directions concerning ornamentation and materials. The stalactite cornicing, for example, draws on the Muslim form of the muqarnas, which can be found around the same time at the Peoples’ Friendship Palace in Tashkent, Uzbekistan (1981F).
