Peter Womersley: Studio Bernat Klein, 1969?–1972

  • Selkirk, Great Britain, Show on map
  • #RES #RescueCampaign #Western Europe
  • Building emphasizing the horizontal, made of concrete, steel and glass on a black brick base, designed by Peter Womersley as a studio for textile designer Bernat Klein.

  • Grade A heritage listed. Threatened by decay.

The studio was closed in the 1990s. In 2002 it was sold to owners who were granted permission to convert the studio into a residential building. In the same year the building was added to Scotland's Building at Risk register. The unfinished renovation and conversion work came to a halt due to the economic downturn in 2008. A broken pipe caused massive water damage and the building has been visibly decaying ever since. Preserving Womersley is campaigning to restore the building.

The Bernat Klein Studio was awarded the RIBA Award (1973) and the Edinburgh Architectural Association Centenary Medal (last updated on January 24, 2025).
