St Stephen's College is the largest secondary school in Hongkong and dates back to 1903. The Special Room Block was added in 1980 and mostly executed in exposed concrete by the architect Tao Ho from Hongkong. It consists of four building units, interconnected by their ground floors and grouped around a central courtyard to which they open in a triangular shape. Tang Shiu Kin Hall is a multi-function hall as a gymnasium and assembly hall which is Trapezoid form in structure. The sloping exterior wall helps reflecting excessive sunlight allowing long hours of use by students. The bare concrete exterior of the Special Room Block cluster is finished in three ways. The majority surface is finished by corrugated concrete while the slanted rib is finished with board concrete leaving traces of wood mold board. The interior wall is constructed with in-situ off-formed fair faced concrete. At the same time, the architect has designed the texture of the wall finish with tilted traces on the edge of the trapezoid and vertical traces in the centre. At the cantilevered drain on both ends, V-shaped traces could be found on the side allowing rainwater to be drained to the ground. As the college is Christian, there is a bell hanging from a small tower in the courtyard. The tower is likewise made from exposed concrete and shaped triangularly. Special thanks to Eduard Kögel
