Jim Cadbury-Brown / Eric Lyons: World’s End Estate, ?–1977

  • London, Great Britain, Show on map
  • #RES #Western Europe
  • This residential development comprises of seven towers that appear to be made from brick, hiding the actual underlying precast concrete structure. While this goes against a core Brutalist principle, its aesthetics remain solidly Brutalist. The name was inherited by the district’s own name, which in turn was coined in the 17th century when it was considered far away from central London. (Special thanks to David Veitch)

A very popular development, the estate is made up of seven high-rise tower blocks of between 18 and 21 storeys joined by nine four-storey walkway blocks. The estate is clad in brown brick, concealing the pre-cast concrete construction. While this goes against a core Brutalist principle, its aesthetics remain solidly Brutalist. (Special thanks to David Veitch)

  • The estate is not listed but appears to be in good condition, some out-of-keeping front doors were recently added.
