Konny Schmitz / Otto Herbert Hajek / Jakob Schwarzkopf: St. Michael Church, 1968C–1969

  • Trier, Germany, Show on map
  • #REL #Western Europe
  • The church rises to a pyramid in five steps. According to the spirit of the time, the church was built in exposed concrete. Columns have been omitted in the interior because the components have been placed on top of one another so that the next level is on the previous one. The straps were pulled outwards. The watercourses can also be found there, so that they give the outside view its own interesting structure.

The design of the church is the result of an architectural competition from 1964 in which Konny Schmitz won first place. The stained glass windows were designed by J. Schwarzkopf. In 1982, the altar island was redesigned by O. H. Hajek.

  • In use. Painted subsequently.

Heritage protected since around 2009 (last updated on April 17, 2024).
