The functionalist building by the Swiss architect couple Esther and Rudolf Guyer is divided into three tracts–a science tract with auditoriums and laboratories, a music tract with practice rooms and an auditorium, and a sports tract with sports halls and a swimming pool–which form a square at the heart of the site. The architectural concept and the spatial structure were developed from the existing sloping ground surface. The architects created a specially pigmented concrete mix with a rough surface for the school in the Swiss border town of Kreuzlingen. The earthy tones and the reduced architecture quote fortified cities in North Africa. Inside, the permanently installed armatures in bright orange contrast with the plain concrete surfaces.

In use. A necessary overall renovation took place from 2013 to 2018. The Kreuzlingen Pedagogical Maturity School, one of the most important Brutalist schools in Switzerland, enjoys great popularity among users like only a few other Brutalist buildings and is held in high esteem.
