The Subway Line 3 was created on the occasion of the Olympic Games, which were held in Munich in 1972. Its construction stood under the sign of a spirit of optimism with regard to new building projects in the Bavarian city as well as Germany's opportunity to present itself as a modern and democratic host state after the collapse of the National Socialist dictatorship.
The responsible subway department had opted for a design of the subway stations with individual characteristics of the different stops, which nevertheless have a serial character. Thus, the guiding color orange is repeated in combination with the finishing in exposed concrete, which is provided with artistic concrete reliefs. Depending on the station they show Olympic medals, images of the city or the profile of an actual subway.Â
