Rosemary Stjernstedt was the the first woman architect to achieve grade I status at London County Council. When working for Lambeth London Borough Council from 1964 on, she was in charge of the design team for a variety of projects that included the masterplan for the Central Hill Estate. It comprised more than 450 homes, built in 1966-74 near the site of the former Crystal Palace. The estate is formed by several terraced, three-story buildings clinging to the sloping site of Central Hill.

Lambeth Council plans to demolish the estate so that it can build an extra 400 homes, many for private sale, so that it could finance the construction of new social housing. Architects PRP were appointed to explore redevelopment options for the estate in 2015. In 2017, Lambeth Council reached a decision to completely demolish the estate. Campaign group Architects For Social Housing worked with residents to develop an alternative regeneration plan for the estate. This proposal allowed for some densification but only very limited demolition. These proposals were rejected by Lambeth. An application for listing was rejected by HE in Oct 2016. A renewed application for listing was submitted 27th April 2021. Residents continue to oppose the demolition of the estate (Save Central Hill Community campaign).
